Biography of a Sports Car – Dave MacDonald tests new 1963 Stingray

Dave MacDonald and Dick Thompson were hand picked by legendary “Father of the Corvette” Zora Arkus Duntov to test drive the new 1963 Z06 Corvette Stingray. This historic event occured August 21, 1962 at the GM Proving Grounds in Michigan and was chronicled in a GM promotional video titled Biography of a Sports Car. The video was distributed around the globe as part of GM’s ’63 sales campaign. Great footage of the racers powering the Stingrays through the course. One month later Zora flew Dave MacDonald, Bob Bondurant & Jerry Grant out to the GM plant in St. Louis and presented them with the first three Z06′s ever produced. GM brass decided to give Z06 #1 to MacDonald. They drove them back to the west coast and race prepped them for their debut race at Riverside International Raceway on Oct 13, 1962.
